Officers arrived to find that Paola Velez, 43, had been driving a 2016 Honda CRV eastbound in the westbound lanes when she collided with a 2007 Honda Accord, Anderson said.

Velez refused medical attention from Clifton Fire Department EMS but showed signs of intoxication, police said. She was arrested at the scene for DWI following an investigation, according to Anderson.

The male driver of the Honda Accord suffered a leg injury and was transported to a local hospital, but his injuries were not considered life-threatening, authorities said.

Velez was issued DWI and multiple motor vehicle summonses, police said. New Jersey State Police troopers assisted Clifton officers at the scene.
